Tanzania: Serengeti Adventure – Departure 1

May 30, 2024 thru June 12, 2024

Be astonished by the abundance of wildlife, the vast wilderness areas and the gracious welcomes we will encounter in Northern Tanzania. We visit several well-known national parks: Serengeti, a safari mecca populated by the “big five” game (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino), Arusha, from where we will see Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain, and Lake Manyara, an unexpected oasis of tropical ground forest. 5-star lodges and tented camps provide us luxurious comfort along the way. For the game drives, we will travel in extended Toyota Land Cruisers (or similar) with sliding windows and vertical opening roofs. Each traveler will have a safe window seat with unobstructed views. These versatile vehicles include 12-volt outlets for recharging cameras, and a cooler, so we always have cold water available.

They create a variety of products, including weaving, glass blowing, beading, paper making and metal work, using recycled materials wherever possible. Their philosophy is that kindness is a language that blind people see and deaf people hear. Learn about the birth of the project, visit the workshops and the gift shop to witness the amazing artistry of this heartwarming project. We continue to Maramboi Tented Lodge, where we enjoy a welcome drink and refreshing towel. The lodge has both indoor and outdoor seating and decks with stunning views of Lake Manyara. The tents were built to minimize disruption of the environment and to maximize usage of solar energy. The hotel is situated less than 5 miles from the entrance to Tarangire National Park. There is an optional walk to the lake, or we can enjoy some time to relax and see wildlife around the lodge. Before dinner there is a briefing by our Tour Director for the next day’s program. Bird lovers will have the opportunity to see more than 500 avian species including yellow‑collared lovebirds, rufous‑tailed weavers, ashy starlings, stocking‑thighed ostriches, and kori bustards. ACTIVITY LEVEL RATING

Level 5: Energetic

Expectations: Tours include well-paced walking tours with intermittent breaks. Could be up to 4-5 hours walking each day. Likely to feature many attributes of our active level, this is very much an on-the-go tour with a complete itinerary involving a full, normally daily program of travel, sightseeing or events. We would consider this tour faster paced and free time at leisure will be more limited, in some cases just to evenings. Programs are at a very active pace, with long travel days and a demanding daily schedule of physical activities.

Appropriate for: Travelers who are physically fit, expect a vigorous pace, enjoy participating in four to five hours of physical activity per day and enjoy challenging themselves physically.

ITINERARY

For your reference, we send to you a detailed itinerary approximately 3-4 weeks prior to the scheduled tour departure. This has day-by-day times and events, hotel information where you can be reached in case of an emergency, and airline information.

The times listed on the itinerary are all approximate. We cannot be held responsible for schedule changes due to unforeseen circumstances with the weather, transportation agents, highway conditions, hotels or contracting agents.

EMERGENCY CONTACT

It is always a good idea to carry on your person a list of medications that you are taking and an emergency contact phone number while you are traveling. And we suggest making a copy of the itinerary and provide it to a friend or family member.

AIRLINE TICKETS

You will be issued your boarding pass the morning of our departure, after your arrival at the Albuquerque International Sunport. If you have a frequent flyer number, or a TSA number, please call our office at least 3 days prior to the tour to ensure we can note these in your reservation.

If you are joining the tour from locations other than Albuquerque, we make other arrangements for you to join the tour. Please call our office for more details.

AIRPORT SECURITY

Do not forget to bring your passport to show at the airport. If you do not have the proper ID, the airline will turn you away. Tanzanian Tourist Visa required prior to departure. No vaccines or immunizations are currently required for travel into Tanzania. Check with your physician or call Passport Health at 505-881-8785 for complete information about any vaccinations and health concerns.

BAGGAGE

We have arranged for handling for one piece of luggage per person regarding the skycaps (where available) and hotels. If you check through luggage note that the maximum weight for the checked piece of luggage is 50 pounds and maximum size is 62 inches (length + width + height). If your bag weighs over 50 pounds the airlines will levy an extra fee that you will be responsible to pay. If you feel the need to lock your checked through luggage and your bag is searched, your lock could be damaged in the process. You can purchase a TSA (Transportation Security Administration) accepted and recognized lock at any luggage store. Make sure you ask for a TSA approved lock. These locks are the kind that TSA screeners can open by using a special tool without breaking. Passengers can carry-on 1 bag (dimensions are limited to 10x16x24 inches), plus a personal type bag, like a purse. We advise that you pack your carry-on lightly. There are restrictions regarding your carryon baggage and contents due to enhanced security

CHECKED BAGGAGE FEES

On our airline for this tour, passengers may be assessed a fee per checked in bag, by the Airlines, upon checking in for the flight.

GRATUITIES/ITEMS INCLUDED IN PRICE

All hotel baggage handling fees are included. We also include basic gratuities for the Tour Director, Coach Driver, and local Tour Guides. If someone has truly gone above and beyond additional tipping is permitted, but never required.

LODGING REQUESTS

If you would like to request special accommodations at the hotel(s) where we are lodging, please call us as soon as possible and we will forward these requests for you. The phone numbers of the hotel(s) where we are staying are listed on the itinerary.

Many hotels around the country have instituted a "reconditioning fee" of $300 or more that is levied upon a guest that smokes in a non-smoking room. If this occurs during our tour you will be responsible for paying this fee to the hotel prior to check-out.
